Karin Hanssen (°Antwerp 1960) studied painting and drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts and the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (HISK) in Antwerp where she graduated in 1993. She has exhibited largely in solo and group shows throughout the world. Works of Karin Hanssen are part of international private and public collections such as the collection of the S.M.A.K. museum Ghent (Belgium), The National Bank of Belgium, UBS Collection (London) and White Cube Modern Collection (London). In 2011 Karin Hanssen launched Contemporary Women Artist in Belgium (CWAB), an internet information page which highlights the work of women artists and keeps an inventory of this large group of artists. Since 2008 she has been working as a teacher and a researcher at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASKA), Artesis Hogeschool Antwerp and from 2011 she started her PhD research project in collaboration with the University of Antwerp.
